DUBAI // Dr Hanif Hassan has been "relieved from his post" as Minister of Health, Wam, the state news agency, reported yesterday.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, "issued a resolution" relieving Dr Hassan of his position and assigned Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, the current Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, to serve as the interim health minister while maintaining his present duties, Wam said.
Dr Hassan was appointed Minister of Health in May 2009. Prior to the post, he served as Minister of Education from February 2006 until 2009.
Before moving into a government role, Dr Hanif served as vice-president of Zayed University from 1998 until 2006, according to a profile on the Ministry of Health website.
