A 31-year-old Iraqi woman who mistakenly thought she was six months pregnant had to have emergency surgery to remove a cancerous 35-kilogram tumour removed from her abdomen.

The obstetrics & gynaecology department at the Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah carried out the complicated surgery to save the woman’s life and remove the tumour.

Tests confirmed she was not pregnant.

Dr Kawthar Mansour, the head of the department, said the woman weighed 108kg before the operation and after the removal of the tumour she is now 68kg.
