ABU DHABI // Etihad Airways has donated more than Dh70,000 to Breast Cancer Arabia to help give support to women sufferers.

The airline’s staff raised funds through events such as healthy cooking classes and a pink bake sale.

Money was also raised through selling pink ribbons and bracelets, and staff donations.

“We are very pleased once again to support breast cancer awareness initiatives within our local community,” said Aubrey Tiedt, Etihad’s vice president of guest services.

“We believe it is important to raise awareness within the UAE and to help provide the treatment and care to women who don’t have the means to pay for it.”

The airline also takes part in global breast cancer awareness month in October each year with a programme to raise awareness of breast cancer among staff and the community.

Last October the airline ran a free breast cancer screening and mammography scheme for company employees and spouses, with help from Burjeel Hospital.

Dr Richard Reyes, medical director of Breast Cancer Arabia, said: “We are grateful for the donation provided by Etihad Airways to support Breast Cancer Arabia.

“These funds will be used to help women who are simply not able to afford the care they need, and thus give them a greater chance of surviving this life-threatening disease.”
