DUBAI // The emirate is deploying inspectors to ensure food safety at restaurants and cafeterias during Eid Al Fitr, and it is monitoring the illegal sale of fireworks.

The food-control department said it was stepping up inspections because of the large quantity of food sold during the festive period.

It said food could be easily contaminated in the hot summer climate, and it would be focusing on the areas where there were increased food sales.

The department advised consumers to check that food items were not past their use-by date.

The emirate is also clamping down on the sale of fireworks, as the Public Parks and Horticulture Department has prepared entertainment programmes at public parks, and pools have been refurbished in anticipation of large crowds.

A number of civil servants have been placed on emergency duty to handle unexpected occurrences.

Meanwhile, the Dubai abattoirs section said it was ensuring food hygiene at the slaughterhouses during Eid. Strict checks are conducted at every stage of the preparation of meat products.
