Burj Khalifa lights up red in solidarity with China over coronavirus

The Burj Khalifa, one of the UAE's most famous landmarks, lit up on Sunday evening in solidarity with China over the coronavirus.

The outbreak was first reported in December in the Chinese city of Wuhan and the disease has spread, infecting about 14,380 people and killing at least 304.

The skyscraper in Dubai was illuminated red and gold, the colours of the Chinese flag.

The Adnoc headquarters in Abu Dhabi was also lit up in the colours on Sunday night in solidarity with Beijing.

Other buildings emblazoned with the Chinese flag included the Capital Gate, Abu Dhabi Global Market, the Emirates Palace hotel and Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi, Burj Al Arab in Dubai and Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

There are five confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the UAE.

The UAE says it is confident China will be able to contain and control the spread of the new virus.

Earlier on Sunday, Gulf carriers Saudi Arabian Airlines and Oman Air became the latest regional airlines to suspend all direct flights to China, amid growing fears of the coronavirus.
