ABU DHABI // Childhood obesity was the focal topic in a meeting between education and health chiefs in the capital.
Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, director general of Abu Dhabi Education Council met with Colonel Dr Nasser Al Nuaimi, head of the Zayed Military Hospital, and Dr Abdullah Al Junaibi, consultant paediatric endocrinologist at the Zayed Military Hospital, The National’s Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad, reported.
They discussed the spread and treatment of obesity in children and how the Armed Forces and Zayed Military Hospital can play an active role in providing healthcare.
Dr Al Qubaisi said that Adec wished to keep a close eye on the health of pupils in schools through health programmes that highlight the importance of healthy food and staying away from bad dietary habits, which can cause problems such as obesity and diabetes.
She said: “The council offers several summer programmes and activities that encourage students to practice physical activities, in addition to many sports classes.”
