DUBAI // A Dh1.2 million charity donation will help fund 95 new beds at Dubai Hospital.
The Easa Saleh Al Gurg Charity Foundation (ESAG), which gives to educational and healthcare charities in the UAE and Africa, announced its latest charitable gift earlier this week, to coincide with the Zayed Day for Humanitarian Work, where charitable events are held across the Emirates in honour of founding President Sheikh Zayed's humanitarian legacy.
"ESAG has, over the last 50 years, extended its philanthropy across all fields including the health sector," said Essa Al Maidoor, director general of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), thanking the charity foundation for the donation.
"The funding will help us modernise our services at the hospital. We are thankful to such charities that reach out to various organisations in the UAE with an aim to better serve the members of our society."
Raja Al Gurg, the chief executive of ESAG, said it was part of the foundation's strategy to pay "special attention to the UAE healthcare sector".
The ESAG Charity Foundation was set up after a decree by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
The self-funded foundation, which does not accept donations, gave to more than 10,000 causes last year, including giving financial assistance to more than 5,000 people.
The foundation also aided more than 500 medical cases and donated educational aid to 1,000 schools and universities.
Since 2010, it has donated US$9 million (Dh33m) to various causes across the world.
