A public forum for residents in Al Gharbia to submit their requests for development in the region began last night.

The ideas put forward included the building of specialised health clinics, cultural and sporting clubs and a bus-taxi station.

Held in Liwa City, the Al Gharbia First Open Meeting was attended by representatives from the Government and private institutions.

The representatives promised that some of the requests would be passed to the Department of Municipal Affairs and then to the Executive Council to be examined.

In response to a question on having an Etihad Rail station in Liwa, a Transport Department representative said the train will be greatly beneficial in two main areas.

Firstly, the investment opportunities during the implementation of the project, and secondly, the job opportunities after the train – which can carry the load of 300 lorries – goes operational.

The representative also said that a bus-taxi station would soon be completed.

Some citizens suggested competitions for the best home garden and the best house, to which the municipality’s representative replied that it already organises the best home garden competition every two years.

However, he added that public parks will be established.

The Al Gharbia First Open Meeting aims to involve the population in the development of the Western Region and benefit from their ideas.
