Stability in Egypt will lead to stability for all Arabs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Foreign Minister, said on an official visit to Cairo.
“The UAE will spare no effort to support Egypt. We will continue to honour our commitments until stability, security and economic activity are restored to normal, and until we see Egypt making progress by the efforts of its loyal people,” he said during a meeting with Egypt’s interim president, Adly Mansour, on Sunday.
“The UAE’s standing for Egypt reflects its belief that a stable and strong Egypt is a strength, a pillar and a source of balance for all Arabs and regional countries.”
In return, Mr Mansour paid thanks to the UAE’s “strong political and economic support to Egypt following the June 30 revolution”, state news agency Wam said.
The Foreign Minister also met Gen Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt’s military chief.
The two discussed strengthening relations “in the service of the interests and aspirations of their citizens”, Wam said. Gen El Sisi also briefed Sheikh Abdullah on developments in Egypt and explained the progress of the country’s roadmap, in particular the progress made on the draft constitution and the forthcoming constitutional referendum on January 14 and 15.
Sheikh Abdullah also spoke with Dr Ahmed El Tayeb, Al Azhar Mosque’s grand imam.
“May Allah give further glory to this blessed country, as its glory is ours. We wish for all progress and advancement for it,” Sheikh Abdullah told the imam.
The Foreign Minister offered the Egyptian officials greetings on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
