Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, visited the family of Sub-Lt Khalifa Saif Saeed Al Khatri, who died in Yemen last week, to offer his condolences.

Al Khatri was one of four servicemen, among them First Warrant Officer Ali Mohammed Rashid Al Hassani; Sgt Khamis Abdullah Khamis Al Zeyoudi; and First Corporal Obaid Hamdan Saeed Al Abdouli, who died while carrying out their duties as part of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition's Operation Restoring Hope, which seeks to back the legitimate government in Yemen.

The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces announced their deaths on Wednesday. They were not initially linked to the Arab Coalition's operation in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, which launched the same day.

Many of the country's rulers and leaders visited the families over the Eid Al Fitr weekend to pay their respects.

In Al Ain, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed, chairman of the board of trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, visited the majlis for the bereaved of First Warrant Officer Al Hassani.

Families in the three emirates held open majlises for bereaved relatives, neighbours and high-ranking officials over the weekend, including Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman; Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain; Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance; and Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed among others

What is dialysis?

Dialysis is a way of cleaning your blood when your kidneys fail and can no longer do the job.

It gets rid of your body's wastes, extra salt and water, and helps to control your blood pressure. The main cause of kidney failure is diabetes and hypertension.

There are two kinds of dialysis — haemodialysis and peritoneal.

In haemodialysis, blood is pumped out of your body to an artificial kidney machine that filter your blood and returns it to your body by tubes.

In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own belly acts as a natural filter. Wastes are taken out by means of a cleansing fluid which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles.

It isn’t an option for everyone but if eligible, can be done at home by the patient or caregiver. This, as opposed to home haemodialysis, is covered by insurance in the UAE.
