ABU DHABI // The UAE continues to follow in the footsteps of its founder, Sheikh Zayed, by always looking to resolve conflicts peacefully through dialogue.

The message was presented in the Akhbar Al Sa’a (News of the Hour) bulletin, issued by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research.

In the bulletin, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, summarised the moderate approach to foreign policy that the UAE has committed to under the leadership of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, the state news agency Wam reported.

Sheikh Mohammed made the remarks during his visit to the Nuclear Security Summit 2014 in The Hague, where he led the UAE delegation.

“That approach stems from the thoughts and vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” Wam said, whose foreign policy was committed to the establishment of “relations with all countries of the world on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of others.”

An advocate for peace, he was committed to resolving “disputes between countries through dialogue and peaceful means; to stand by the issues of fairness and justice and contribute to promoting stability and international peace”.

The bulletin highlighted several points. Firstly, that the UAE’s leadership had a firm belief that the best means of solving any international dispute is by adopting the “approach of cooperation, understanding and dialogue among countries and peaceful resolution of disputes to support the development of peoples and serve their interests”.

Secondly, that “the UAE is fully aware of the risks that threaten the stability and security of the world at the moment, topped by the threat of terrorism, which threatens the stability and security” of everyone.

Sheikh Mohammed confirmed that terrorism in general, and nuclear terrorism in particular, “constitutes the most important challenge facing the world today, and that requires us to work tirelessly and jointly to address this risk in its various kinds”.

Thirdly, the bulletin stated that “the UAE is fully aware of the risk that widespread nuclear terrorism represents to global security, and has a clear vision for the circumventing of this danger, as made apparent when Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the need to formulate common trends to face the risks and threats that affect the security of nations and the stability and safety of their people, particularly the threat of nuclear terrorism and the threat of weapons of mass destruction”.

The bulletin concluded with a fourth point – the UAE is ready to wholeheartedly support global efforts being put in place to combat nuclear terrorism.
