Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, met Japan's Joint Chief of Staff on Monday to discuss defence and military co-ordination between both countries.

Gen Koji Yamazaki, chief of staff of Japan Self-Defence Forces, and his accompanying delegation, met with Sheikh Mohamed at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Mohamed and Gen Yamazaki reviewed the UAE and Japan's current defence and military agreements and spoke of increasing co-operation.

The pair also exchanged views on regional and global affairs of interest, reported state news agency Wam.

Mohammed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Lt Gen Issa Al Mazrouei, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and Akihiko Nakajima, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, also attended the meeting.

Gen Yamazaki met Lt Gen Hamad Al Rumaithi, chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, for military talks the day before.
