Sheikha Lubna hails UAE as role model in empowering women

Emirati Women’s Day is a milestone moment and a source of pride, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, said.

“The UAE has become a role model in empowering women through nation building and the renaissance of communities,” said Sheikha Lubna, who is also president of Zayed University.

“This day proves the essence and pillar of our nation’s development, which is now leading in all areas, that there is no discrimination or bias between the children of the nation, both men and women.”

The day corresponds with the establishment of the General Women’s Union in 1975.

“Today, we see the tender care of the wise leadership of the UAE, which is continuously renewed and determined, and the inexhaustible efforts for improving the status of women, starting with the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s determination when he established with his brothers their highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council of the UAE, the strong rules and foundations toward the empowerment of women and improving their capabilities,” Sheikha Lubna said.

Trust is constantly renewed by the approach and philosophy of the successors, President Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the Rulers of the Emirates, she said.

Sheikha Lubna was the first woman to hold a post in the Cabinet. She was appointed to her current ministerial role in 2013, after being appointed as Minister of Foreign Trade in 2008 and Minister of Economy in 2004.
