Senior citizens and people with special needs are to be given more power thanks to a new law issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
Law No 8 of 2015 on Dubai’s Community Development Authority will “enhance the quality of life in the emirate, organising and reinforcing community development and empowering vulnerable groups”, the state news agency Wam reported.
Underprivileged residents, juveniles and delinquents will also benefit.
The law will also allow for the provision of social services to the above groups.
CDA’s responsibilities will now include the drafting of policies and plans with regards to social services. CDA will also establish and manage a system and database relating to social services in the emirate. This will include setting up plans and programmes to ensure a high quality of social services.
The new law will replace Law No 12 of 2008 and annuls any other law or legislation that contradicts any of its articles, Wam reported.
