Dubai Municipality celebrated the ninth occasion of the accession of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, by giving away marigold and petunia saplings to residents.
Maj Gen Abdel Rahman Rafee, deputy chief of Dubai Police for Community Service and Supplies, welcomed the initiative, saying it represents a beautiful and environmental gesture in harmony with the municipality’s goals of beautifying the city and maintaining its cultural landscape and infrastructure.
Maj Gen Rafee added that the community service and supplies administration will cooperate with the municipality to distribute the saplings.
Mohammed Al Awadhi, head of public gardens and agriculture at the municipality, said they distributed about 6.75 million marigold and petunia saplings the past three days to Emiratis and residents in Dubai at a rate of 2.25 million saplings per day.
He added that Wednesday marks the last day of the campaign “Thank you Guardians of our Nation” and will see the distribution of another 2.25 million saplings these parks and gardens: Uptown Mirdif, Mezher, Oud Al Mutina in Deira, Safa Park and Sufouh in Bur Dubai and Mirqab.
Nine million saplings will be distributed overall.
