ABU DHABI // The President, Sheikh Khalifa, on Saturday congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President, before Monday’s 10th anniversary of his accession as Ruler of Dubai.

“Today we say to him, ‘Thank you, Mohammed bin Rashid, for all that you have offered the UAE, Arab and Islamic nations, and for the entire world,” the President said. “Thank you for providing your administrative, humanitarian, economic, developmental and intellectual experiences.

“I congratulate him on the occasion of his 10 years of leadership, wishing for him a bigger, more beautiful and more giving decade to come.”

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, also praised his father’s work.

“A decade of @HHShkMohd’s leadership is a milestone that gives everyone he inspired a chance to say #ThankUShkMohd,” Sheikh Hamdan wrote on Twitter. “Our appreciation for this exceptional leader is a must, for his achievements & values have taught us great lessons #ThankUShkMohd.”

Sheikh Khalifa also thanked Sheikh Mohammed, who will celebrate the milestone anniversary tomorrow, for leading “one of the most advanced and efficient governments”. “During 10 years, he also established transparent systems of government administration in performance and quality standards, smart services, and establishing programmes to prepare future generations of human cadres,” Sheikh Khalifa said.

“In 10 years of governance, my brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid managed to raise the standard of the government’s competitiveness internationally by establishing institutions and work teams that focus on satisfying citizens and making them happy.”

Sheikh Mohammed’s leadership also inspired thousands of young people, Sheikh Khalifa said.

Last year, Sheikh Mohammed launched the Arab Reading Challenge that aims to inspire a million children in the region to each read 50 Arabic books over the course of a year.

His other achievements last year include the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives foundation.

The foundation will consolidate the work of 28 aid organisations such as Dubai Cares, UAE Water Aid and the blindness-prevention charity Noor Dubai, and will carry out more than 1,400 humanitarian programmes in 116 countries.
