ABU DHABI // Two new places where some Emiratis can buy subsidised foodstuffs have been announced by Abu Dhabi Municipality.
The new locations are both Spar supermarkets on the outskirts of the capital - one in Baniyas and the other in Al Shahama.
Meanwhile, Emiratis can continue to buy subsidised food from the existing distribution centres at Mussaffah and Al Muroor.
The move aims to reduce the use of the current centres and set up new options in residential areas populated by locals, reported The National’s Arabic sister paper, Aletihad.
The number of Emirati families receiving subsidised food cards has reached 53,500, according to the latest statistics.
There are 84 different foodstuffs that are subsidised for them.
Many beneficiaries are making use of the self-service kiosks that reduce waiting times and allow them to choose the items, pay for them and print out the bill simultaneously, without going through existing customer service centres.
