Investment urged to keep innovators on track

DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday emphasised that investments must be made to support innovators’ ideas to allow them to become a reality.

“Supporting UAE innovators is a key pillar of the future work and efforts of the Government to embed the concept of innovation into corporate cultures and society,” he said, reported state news agency Wam.

Sheikh Mohammed was speaking at the Innovation Festival, held by the Ministry of Finance during UAE Innovation Week.

During the event, he announced the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Fund to Finance Innovations, which is now open for funding requests from applicants.

He said the Government would work to create an idea for innovation incubation through financial and moral support.

Sheikh Mohammed also attended a young innovators workshop for children between the ages of 8 and 12, at which they learnt about robots.

He was accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future, Younis Haji Al Khouri, undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance, and other officials.
