The Ministry of Environment and Water has begun an awareness, inspection and auditing campaign covering all agricultural establishments in Ras Al Khaimah, with plans to expand.
Over two days of inspection, specialised teams confiscated illegal agricultural materials from more than 20 establishments.
The inspections also resulted in fines and penalties for nurseries and agri-based shops that were in violation of certain laws and legislations.
Saif Al Shara, assistant undersecretary at the ministry, said the campaign goal is to enforce laws and make people more aware of legislation governing agricultural businesses.
The ministry said owners were given briefings on regulations and guidelines for maintaining such businesses.
Inspection teams confiscated illegal agricultural materials, which included products that were unregistered, restricted and expired.
The campaign eventually will cover all emirates. Successful inspections have been conducted in RAK and Abu Dhabi to date.
