Fishermen in the north have been warned not to illegally dump stingrays accidentally caught in their nets.
During a meeting held last week, Fujairah Fishermen Association asked a group of registered fishermen, who had breached regulations, to preserve fish stocks and refrain from leaving waste on beaches.
Fishermen were also asked to follow Ministry of Environment and Water fishing and environmental regulations.
Ministry officials warned fishermen, in Qidfa, that they would be penalised if they continued to dump stingrays in such a manner, Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National reported.
Those present at the meeting, who had previously been caught ignoring regulations, signed documents stating they would stick to the rules, the head of the association said.
