A Federal National Council member has called for the protection of archaeological heritage on the three occupied UAE islands, Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs.

Ahmed Al Mansoori (Dubai) said artefacts on the islands must be protected from tampering or distortion to their identity.

He said Unesco should to oversee these sites, which include buildings, historical sites, books, art and other monuments.

Mr Al Mansoori will make his suggestion at an FNC session on Tuesday in the capital in front of the 40-member council.

The three islands have been occupied by Iran since 1971.
