Fire breaks out at Sharjah warehouse

SHARJAH // A fire broke out at a large warehouse in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 7 on Wednesday afternoon. No casualties were reported.

Sharjah Civil Defence said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire started at about 1pm and civil defence was contacted at 1.17pm, after which firefighting teams from Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman were dispatched to the location behind Al Safeer Mall. The fire was extinguished two hours later.

Brig Gen Abdullah Al Suwaidi, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, said teams secured the surrounding area to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring warehouses.

The warehouse stored electric machines, furniture, air-conditioning units and aluminum products. It had been divided into six smaller storerooms.
