Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) sent its latest batch of humanitarian aid to help people in flood-hit areas of Sudan.

Three aid convoys were sent to the White Nile, Kassala and Khartoum districts in co-operation with the UAE Embassy in Khartoum.

Among the shipments were medical devices and equipment for the government-run Ahmed Qassem Hospital, which specialises in heart surgery and kidney transplants.

ERC also provided educational supplies and aid to schools in Khartoum in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The September 2020 floods caused devastation and the repercussions of the disaster are still being felt.

At least 500,000 people were left homeless and about 100 died.

Fahd Abdul Rahman bin Sultan, deputy secretary-general at ERC, said aid programmes and relief operations will continue to help the Sudanese people overcome the disaster.

The current stage of aid includes providing more food, medical, educational and other needs.

In the meantime, the charity has signed contracts with two companies in Khartoum to supply medical devices and equipment for the hemodialysis department of the Alban Jadid Hospital in Khartoum.

At the signing of the deal was Hamad Al Junaibi, Emirati Ambassador to Sudan, Al Fadhil Omar, chairman of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS), and Dr Afaf Yahya, secretary general of the SRCS.
