Emirates Red Crescent hosts mass wedding for 100 couples in Yemen

Many couples are hesitant to get married because of economic instability, ERC says

The Emirates Red Crescent has organised another group wedding in Yemen.

A hundred couples tied the knot at the event in the Red Sea port town of Mocha on Thursday, state news agency Wam reported.

Mohammed Al Junaibi, Emirates Red Crescent representative in the region, said economic hardship in Yemen made many young people hesitant to get married.

"This initiative seeks to reduce the costs of weddings and enhance the social bonds within the Yemeni community," he said.

Mr Al Junaibi added that mass weddings were designed to ensure the country's youth played a role in the Yemen's reconstruction.

It comes as the UAE ramps up efforts to help rebuild the country through humanitarian and development programmes.

The UAE earlier this month signed a deal to build a new power plant in Aden.
