DUBAI // An auction of goods that were abandoned by importers or detained by customs officials has raised Dh12.5 million.
Dubai Customs, represented by the Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management, organised the sale in cooperation with DP World.
The contents of 533 containers containing new and used goods in 35 categories went under the hammer at the three-day public auction at Jebel Ali Port, reported state news agency Wam.
Naser Al Jumairy, chairman of the Jebel Ali Auction Committee, said: “This was definitely the biggest auction for Jebel Ali Port, with over 751 bidders. The auction saw the number of attendees soar by 450 per cent over previously-held auctions.”
