ABU DHABI // More than 2,000 counterfeit car parts, tyres and accessories worth Dh600,000 were confiscated from 39 shops in Al Ain.
The shops were located in the industrial area of Al Ain, the state news agency Wam reported.
The commercial protection section at the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, an affiliate of the Department of Economic Development, conducted the inspections and seized fake items.
The inspections led to reports filed against 30 shops for “transgressing the commercial activities rules and regulations” of the emirate.
The campaign was carried out in cooperation with Al Shaali and Company, a law firm that represents 10 owner companies and manufacturers of the original car products, and the firm trained inspectors on identifying the difference between counterfeit and original products.
According to an official from the vehicle inspection department in Abu Dhabi, faulty tyres are a main cause of accidents and tyre dealers flout the rules.
Some sell used tyres without informing the buyer, which is illegal.
