ABU DHABI // Housing subsidies worth Dh430.5 million have been approved for 690 Emirati applicants by the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme.

The decision came at the board of directors' meeting on Sunday, presided over by Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, according to Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.

Applicants will receive a response from the programme via text message, allowing them to head to any branch to complete their applications.

Waiting time for processing has been reduced from two months to less than five minutes, in line with the National Agenda 2021, one aim of which is to more quickly provide adequate homes for beneficiaries, the programme said.

Housing subsidies were divided into 584 loans and 106 grants, to be used for a new construction project, the completion of construction or extension works, maintenance, government housing and subsidies to buy a house.

Subisides are available to families as well as those with special needs, who can benefit from housing designed to cater to their needs. The programme also provides subsidies to widows, divorcees, and senior citizens.

The programme also set a cap of Dh800,000 for subsidies, calculated based the family’s average income.
