Only 15 companies were found violating government regulations on the midday break law this year in a drive during which 20,000 inspections were conducted in Bur Dubai alone, according to the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai.

The number was down on last year’s number when 51 violations were recorded.

Maj Gen Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, deputy director general of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai, said the government had remained committed to ensuring compliance of regulations governing the workers’ rights and ensuring their health by following international best practices.
