DUBAI // A gang of four men who broke into a warehouse and stole laptops worth more than Dh400,000 have been jailed.
Prosecutors said Afghans GT, 27, GA, 23, MR, 25, and 20-year-old SM made off with 286 laptops during the raid in Al Raffa on May 8 last year. The computers were then sold to Pakistanis MK 36, and AA, 24, for Dh1,000 each.
Emirati police officer TM, 31, said that after investigations the men were arrested in the Naif neighbourhood.
GA told prosecutors that he received a call telling him to meet the others near the warehouse. MR used tools to break the lock while the other two kept watch outside.
“I received Dh600 for my role in the theft,” GA said.
Driver MK used a lorry to transport the laptops, which prosecutors said were worth Dh456,624, to AA.
Police found some of the laptops at a shop were AA works.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday, the four Afghans were sentenced to one year in jail for theft and destruction of property, to be followed by deportation.
MK was acquitted from the charge of possession of stolen property, while AA was fined Dh3,000 for the same charge.
