RAS AL KHAIMAH // The funeral for Emirati serviceman Abdullah Al Shamsi, who was killed in Yemen on Sunday, has been held at the Grand Mosque in Ras Al Khaimah.
Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Ruler of RAK, performed the funeral prayer on Monday.
Sheikh Saud offered his sincere condolences to Abdullah’s family, the state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikhs, local officials, Armed Forces personnel and members of the public attended the service.
Abdullah, 20, was killed in the Saudi-led Operation Restoring Hope in Yemen.
It is believed he was in a convoy of military vehicles that was hit by a car bomb in the Lahj district.
Another serviceman was injured in the attack.
Abdullah was the second youngest in a family of 11 boys and eight girls, said his eldest brother Khalaf Al Shamsi, 50.
Khalaf said that Abdullah was to be married after becoming engaged two months ago.
Abdullah came from the village of Shaam in northern RAK, a community that had already suffered a loss two years ago when Tariq Al Shehi, a 41-year-old father of four, was killed by an improvised explosive device in Bahrain.
