SHARJAH // A fire that broke out on Sunday morning in Kalba, in the eastern region of Sharjah, gutted four caravans used as worker accommodations.

Sharjah Civil Defence said that no one was injured in the fire that destroyed the caravans, which were owned by a contractor carrying out work in the Kalba heritage village.

The Kalba municipal council said the heritage village and the historical building were not affected by the fire.

“Four of eight caravans were completely destroyed in the fire,” said Col Sami Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Civil Defence.

“Kalba civil defence teams reached the site at 11.10am, tackled the blaze and made sure the fire did not spread to other locations.”

The fire was extinguished by 12.30pm. Sharjah Police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
