Firefighters spent around 10 hours tackling a fire at a packaging factory in Sharjah’s Industrial Zone 11, which broke out at 3:30am on Monday.

Brigadier General Abduallah Saeed Al Suwaidi, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, said teams were dispatched from Samnan, Muwayleh, Al Sajaa and Al Mina and support was requested from Dubai and Ajman, in addition to vehicles from Sharjah Municipality to tackle the blaze.

Mr Al Suwaidi said that firefighters exerted great effort to prevent the fire from reaching nearby warehouses and factories.

He said that due to the flammable nature of the materials stored in the warehouse, the fire continually reignited.

The site was handed over to the forensic laboratory of Sharjah Police to determine the cause of the incident.
