Filipino organisers expect thousands at Dubai jobs fair

Expatriates can vie for 500 jobs, with up to 50 companies on site.

Filipinos looking for jobs have a good chance of finding one at an employment fair in Dubai next month.

The Filipino Human Resources Practitioners’ Association (Fil-HR) expects more than 3,000 to attend its fourth fair, where at least 500 vacancies with up to 50 companies will be available.

The event  will bring together job-seekers, employers and recruiters in the one venue.

“The employment situation has relatively improved this year,” said Sheryll Bacay, the group’s  community involvement services director.

“There are positive indicators of growing employment activities,  such as a boost in jobs and careers online, with many industries.”

The companies are expected to offer jobs in sectors including hospitality, retail, logistics, manufacturing, and oil and gas.

Fil-HR’s job fair in Dubai last November attracted more than 4,000 job-seekers.

Among the lucky hopefuls was Rizalnino Noble, 33, an administrative assistant in Abu Dhabi who had just resigned from his job.

He presented his CV and was interviewed by the human relations coordinator of a distributions company.

“A week later, I had the final interview with the operations manager in Abu Dhabi and got the job,” Mr Noble said. “I’m glad that I went to the job fair.”

It helped that he had arrived early at the venue and did not come in a T-shirt and jeans, he said.

“Many were not dressed properly,” Mr Noble said.

Help is on hand for applicants who want interview tips, and learn how to write a CV and basic information on the UAE labour laws.

“Many have no idea of their basic rights as an employee,” Ms Bacay said. “They do not understand the policies or show less interest in learning and understanding them.”

Fil-HR is offering a free training seminar ahead of the fair from 1.30pm to 7pm on November 9.

It will also give attendees a chance to match their qualifications and skills with the vacancies available.

The jobs fair will be held between 8am and 5pm on November 16, at the Al Safa Sports Hall on Al Wasl Road in Dubai.
