ABU DHABI // Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a Filipino engineer this month, Philippine embassy officials said. The embassy identified the victim, who died in Sheikh Khalifa Hospital on Jan 14, only as YC. Noel Servigon, the consul general at the embassy, said he had met YC's wife who had asked for assistance to send her husband's body home. Mr Servigon said the embassy was waiting for police to release the death certificate and a clearance for shipment of the body.
Sources from the Filipino community in Abu Dhabi have said YC was stabbed six to eight times. The embassy was trying to verify the circumstances behind his death. The results of the autopsy have yet to be released but a Pakistani suspect had been arrested, Mr Servigon said. Abu Dhabi Police declined to comment. rruiz@thenational.ae
