AL AIN // A family of five lemurs have become Al Ain Zoo’s newest arrivals.

The Ring-tailed lemurs, the first of their kind at the zoo, were playful, lively and inquisitive and would be a hit with children and their parents, zoo officials said.

The animals are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of threatened species due to habitat destruction.

“The new addition of the lemurs is a testament to the zoo’s commitment to implementing conservation programmes,” said Muna Al Dhaheri, the zoo’s chief of conservation and education.

“Native to Madagascar, their presence at Al Ain Zoo highlights our dedication to areas such as captive management, conservation research, captive breeding, propagation and the reintroduction of endangered species into the wild.”
