DUBAI// A man who claimed to be a former member of the American mafia threatened to kill his former business partner and her children if she did not give him a share of her firm’s profits, a court heard on Sunday.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that Jordanian M B, 47, made the threat to 46-year-old Syrian E A on May 17 this year.

E A said that she had been in business with M B and a third man, but, following a dispute, their partnership was cancelled.

“In February this year he tried to assault me in the premises of the company we were once partners in. I reported him to police but then dropped the charges,” E A said.

She added that in May, M B contacted her and asked to meet in a cafe and patch up their relationship.

“When we met he asked for his share of profits, I told him it can’t be done. He told me he had nothing to lose, he had said his goodbyes to his family and was ready for me and my children,” E A said.

“He said he was a mafia man in the US and lifted up his trousers to show me a bullet wound he got from his mafia days.”

M B denied issuing threats to kill and the next hearing will be on November 4.
