An Etisalat worker lost an eye in a savage attack by three brothers in Dubai.
The Pakistani driver suffered life-changing injuries after being 'brutalised' by the three men at their villa.
Dubai Criminal court heard that the 30-year-old had entered the trio's home in order to talk to three of his colleagues who were carrying out work at the villa when he was set upon.
The Emirati siblings, one aged 25 and two aged 33, were jailed for six months each for the horrific assault on August 5 of last year.
The court was told that the driver had been waiting for Etisalat technicians to finish installing surveillance cameras at the property when he entered the home to let them know he would be going to a nearby mosque.
“It was time for Al Isha prayers and I wanted to let them know that I will be going to a nearby mosque,” said the driver.
He tried to call one of the technicians but discovered he didn’t have credit in his mobile.
As the door to the villa had been left open, he walked in and called for them but they didn’t hear him.
One of the brothers then arrived and repeatedly slapped the driver, before his siblings joined in the assault.
"I was on the ground and they were kicking and hitting me. I received a blow to the head with a solid object, I tried to crawl outside but one of them dragged me back in," he said.
The driver's colleagues were removed from the house when they tried to intervene.
The technicians called their supervisor and informed him of the incident.
Police were then contacted and arrived to find the victim on the ground next to his vehicle.
“He was brutalised, his face was all swollen and most of his severe injuries were in the head area,” said a first lieutenant at Dubai Police, who called for an ambulance.
The driver was in a coma for seven days at Rashid Hospital after the attack.
When he regained consciousness he was told by doctors that his left eye could not be saved.
The three brothers were convicted of physical assault.

School counsellors on mental well-being
Schools counsellors in Abu Dhabi have put a number of provisions in place to help support pupils returning to the classroom next week.
Many children will resume in-person lessons for the first time in 10 months and parents previously raised concerns about the long-term effects of distance learning.
Schools leaders and counsellors said extra support will be offered to anyone that needs it. Additionally, heads of years will be on hand to offer advice or coping mechanisms to ease any concerns.
“Anxiety this time round has really spiralled, more so than from the first lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic,” said Priya Mitchell, counsellor at The British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi.
“Some have got used to being at home don’t want to go back, while others are desperate to get back.
“We have seen an increase in depressive symptoms, especially with older pupils, and self-harm is starting younger.
“It is worrying and has taught us how important it is that we prioritise mental well-being.”
Ms Mitchell said she was liaising more with heads of year so they can support and offer advice to pupils if the demand is there.
The school will also carry out mental well-being checks so they can pick up on any behavioural patterns and put interventions in place to help pupils.
At Raha International School, the well-being team has provided parents with assessment surveys to see how they can support students at home to transition back to school.
“They have created a Well-being Resource Bank that parents have access to on information on various domains of mental health for students and families,” a team member said.
“Our pastoral team have been working with students to help ease the transition and reduce anxiety that [pupils] may experience after some have been nearly a year off campus.
"Special secondary tutorial classes have also focused on preparing students for their return; going over new guidelines, expectations and daily schedules.”
