UAE mobile carriers are changing their network names to celebrate the arrival of President Xi Jinping of China.

Both Etisalat and Du are substituting the message ”WelcomePresChina” where the network name usually appears in the top left hand corner of mobile phones – although it does not seem to appear for every customer.

A number of mobile customers have tweeted screenshots of the message.

The UAE is marking today’s arrival of Mr Xi’s first state visit in various ways, including the launch of UAE-China week, which is set to be an annual event coinciding with Chinese New Year.

Landmarks across the country have also been lit up in the colours of the Chinese flag, including Dubai Frame and Burj Al Arab.

Road signs across the country are also projecting messages in Mandarin to welcome the President.
