Weather warning issued as widespread fog leads to accidents across UAE

A weather warning against fog and poor visibility over most inland areas of the country and in the western region has been issued by forecasters.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said on Thursday that visibility would decrease to less than 50 metres on roads between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Al Ain and the Western Region because of dense fog.

Operations at Dubai Airports have been disrupted with Emirates airline also tweeting that their flights in and out of Dubai would be affected by fog.

Police issued a warning to motorists in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, urging them to drive with caution. RTA reminded all road users to reduce speed gradually and use their windscreen wipers and defrosters for maximum vision.

Commuters experienced delays on Mohammed bin Zayed road near Global Village towards Abu Dhabi​ after an accident involving three cars .

Another accident between two cars on the Al Manama Road towards Dubai – Al Ain caused delay when one of the cars caught fire.

The weather will be fair in general with fresh to strong winds over the sea reaching up to 40 kilometres an hour in the Arabian Gulf by afternoon.

Humidity is likely to increase overnight over some interior areas, possibly leading to more fog and mist on Friday morning.

The sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate becoming rough at night in the Sea of Oman. Similar conditions are expected throughout the weekend.

Forecasters reported swells of up to two metres in the Arabian Gulf on Thursday morning with windspeeds exceeding 40 kph.

Temperatures will range between 14°C and 26°C along the coast, with 9°C to 28°C expected inland. In the mountains temperatures will peak at 19°C and fall as low as 7°C.
