Water is being released from several dams in the country’s central region in a move to feed underground aquefiers. The measures, by the Ministry of Environment and Water, aim to improve water security.

The Shoka Valley dam, which is storing 275,000 cubic meters of water, was the first opened by the ministry. Water will also be released from the Philly 2 Lake dam and the Almansib dam. The three dams hold a total estimated volume of 583,000 cubic meters of water, equivalent to 128 million gallons.
