A weather alert has been issued warning of rough seas off the UAE’s western coast on Monday followed by thunder and lightning starting early on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to drop across the country through Wednesday and Thursday with rainfall varying in intensity in different emirates, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

Wind speeds are expected to would reach 70km per hour with blustery conditions causing swirling dust and sand to reduce visibility, the centre said.

The unstable weather would persist until Thursday with rainfall continuing in the eastern areas and cloudy conditions in inland  areas.

Temperatures are set to drop with highs of 26°C and lows ranging between 14°C to 16°C forecast for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, according to BBC Weather.

The country is recovering from flooding caused by torrential rain last week that resulted in cancellation of after school activities and a disruption of flights.

Flash floods were reported in the wadis when rains lashed the country on November 10. The rain brought traffic  to a standstill  on waterlogged city roads, trees were uprooted and buildings battered by high winds.

The downpour triggered leakages and damaged the roof inside the Dubai Mall resulting in water streaming into shops and in the car park area.

Authorities issued several warnings asking people to take extra precautions when driving.
