ABU DHABI // Senior energy officials from the UAE and the US have discussed future collaboration with the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.
The officials encouraged women to become more active in leadership in the field.
Fatima Al Shamsi, assistant undersecretary for electricity, clean energy and desalination of water at the Ministry of Energy, and Dr Elizabeth Randall, deputy secretary at the US Department of Energy, discussed renewable energy with Masdar Institute students and faculty.
The event was organised as part of a programme that the UAE launched during the United Nations General Assembly titled “Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy”.
“One of the pillars of the initiative is to provide opportunities for young women to be inspired by the real-world experiences of women already active in driving solutions to the world’s toughest energy challenges,” said Dr Nawal Al Hosany, Masdar director of sustainability.
