Analysis of the contents of barrels dumped in Sharjah prove the chemicals inside pose no risk to the environment.

The barrels were abandoned in the Al Harai area, near Khor Fakkan. Subsequent tests prove they contain flammable substances that are not water soluble, said Salem Al Naqbi, head of the Department of Municipality and Agriculture Affairs

“Khor Fakkan Municipality has summoned the owner of the company that committed the environmental violation and ordered him to remove the barrels and clean the area at his own expense. Sharjah Environment Company supervised the removal process to ensure strict observance of environmental procedures,” Mr Al Naqbi said.

He said that the Environment and Natural Reserve Authority in Sharjah urged the municipality to remove the barrels to a specialised dump site to prevent the chemicals seeping into underground water systems.
