RAS AL KHAIMAH // Maintenance work has begun on five passageways in wadis in southern areas of Ras Al Khaimah.
The RAK Department of Public Works, which is carrying out the projects, has been monitoring the effects of rainfall on the passageways after recent heavy rains in the area, said Ahmed Al Hammadi, the department’s director general.
The effects of the rainfall revealed the need for maintenance and a study on the wadis to avoid problems that may affect homes and farms of residents, as well as roads that cut through some of the valleys in these areas, he said, according to Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
The department as also started work on houses damaged in the rains, particularly in Rafeq and Al Meneii.
Earlier this month, flash floods in the emirate and the deaths of a mother and three young children led police to warn the public of dangers of driving in valleys.
