RAS AL KHAIMAH // The Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah has issued a decree stipulating that no one may fish commercially or recreationally in the emirate’s waters without a licence.

Fishermen must obtain a licence from the Ras Al Khaimah Environmental Protection and Development Authority, which also registers fishermen, fishing boats and gear, and monitors fishing tips and quantities of catch.

Fishing in protected areas and creeks is strictly prohibited, according to the decree, and no fishing is allowed near critical infrastructure.

The decree also prohibited the use of harmful, explosive and poisonous materials, nylon nets and multiple baited hooks, reported Wam, the state news agency.
