As makeovers go, the transformation of Almas Lake in Dubai from an uninspiring sludge into a shimmering azure oasis will take some beating.

Residents of Jumeirah Lakes Towers have been amazed by the dazzling new appearance of the large pond earlier this week.

Although the rapid change appears to be the result of the inclusion of dye in the water, area operators Dubai Multi Commodities Centre insist the renaissance is merely the result of a long overdue clean-up.

The pond may not rival the glory of Lake Como in Italy or The Great Lakes of the US, but its transformation is likely to make JLT the background of more Instagram selfies.

“The change of water colour in Almas Lake is the result of an ongoing maintenance programme,” a DMCC spokesman said.

“The programme is in place to enhance the water quality and cleanliness of the lakes in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, as well as their long-term sustainability performance.”
