ABU DHABI // Of all the good deeds that take place during Ramadan, perhaps the greatest could be to offer clean drinking water to others, worshippers will be told on Friday.
“Ramadan is the month of generosity, and people bear witness to the generosity of this country, at home and abroad,” the sermon will say.
“Meals have been distributed to families, tents that offer iftar meals have increased and the country has been honoured with the guests of the President — scholars from the Islamic world, to teach the people about the knowledge and wisdom that Allah has offered them.”
Many prisoners have also benefited from official pardons so they could enjoy the holy month with their families.
These acts are truly important. As the Prophet Mohammed said: “From the most beloved deeds to Allah is bringing happiness to a Muslim.”
The sermon highlights the UAE Water Aid initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. The campaign, also known as Suqia Al Emarat, aims to provide clean drinking water to five million people around the world.
“And how great is this initiative as Allah has put the secrets of life in water,” says the sermon.
As a verse in the Quran says: “Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then we parted them, and we made every living thing of water? Will they not then believe?”
Prophet Mohammed also said that if one builds a water well, he will be rewarded for every human, bird or jinn that drinks from it.
“The benefits of providing water is not only for humans, but also for animals,” says the sermon.
A hadith by the Prophet Mohammed tells of a man pardoned for his misdeeds by Allah after he offered water to a thirsty dog.
“So this is a great chance for us to participate in Suqia Al Emarat to seek rewards in this blessed month.”
