Dubai’s Dewa to use Google Glass to detect faults at stations

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is utilising Google Glass through an in-house app as part of its efforts to fully automate procedures and keep pace with technological developments. The app improves Dewa’s internal procedures by enabling technicians to detect any faults in stations and substations and send notifications to the authority’s Enterprise Resource Planning System.

Notifications include details such as location and images of the fault.

“Dewa has realised the effective role of smart apps in providing reliable high-quality services,” said Moza Al Akraf, acting chief information officer of the authority.

“This supports its plans that keep pace with the ongoing development of smart services in the UAE and the vision of our wise leadership.”

Google Glass is augmented reality technology that is worn like glasses and displays information in a smartphone-like hands-free format.
