DUBAI // Traditional light bulbs in 500 Dubai villas will be replaced with more efficient LED bulbs as part of a government project.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is carrying out the project with the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment. The new light bulbs will be installed in Al Barsha, Al Warqa and Oud Metha, according to Wam, the state news agency.

The authority aims to supply 2,000 homes with 160,000 LED light bulbs, as part of an agreement signed with the housing establishment last year.

The initiative supports the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the city with the world’s lowest carbon footprint by 2020, said Saeed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive of Dewa.
