Dubai Municipality has launched its Clean up the World campaign with the aim of spreading environmental awareness.

Hussain Lootah, director general at the municipality, said the week-long campaign “Our Place, our Planet, our Responsibility” is aimed at ridding the emirate of waste through reusing, recycling and reducing it.

The campaign is in partnership with the UN Environment Programme and takes place in Al Warqa 3 area.

Mr Lootah visited workshops, exhibitions and programmes organised by school pupils, companies and organisations participating in the campaign.

Its activities include cleaning of public places in the emirate such as beaches, parks and Dubai Creek with the participation of companies, schools, organisations and government departments.

Dubai Municipality will provide all equipment for those taking part in the campaign in all areas of the emirate.

“This year we received tremendous response from all segments to join the clean-up campaign,” said Abdul Majeed Saifaie, director of the waste management department.

“The number of volunteers registered reached above 40,000, showing the increased awareness and interest of individuals, companies, schools and government departments to participate in the environmental initiatives.”

Mr Saifaie also urged the public to participate and spread the message in helping Dubai to achieve its aim to be one of the top sustainable cities in the world.
